The Ardèche canyon consists of about 30 kilometer shaped rocks in the limestone plateau between pont d'Arc and Saint Martin d'Ardèche, next to the campsite.
The inner river course , they form a border between the departments of the Ardèche and the Gard.
The Canyon is THE inevitable attraction when coming to the Ardèche, and one can practise numerous activities:
They offer numerous possibilities to discover at everyone's ease, during one or several days.
The going down the Canyon by canoe or by kayak can be done as a family or group activity for the streams are accessible, even without particular training.
The most commun track begins at Pont d’Arc untill Saint Martin d'Ardèche (the restaurant at Aigueze is located at the finish, on the opposite riverside,at the bridge exit). It is a 23 kilometer track and it is necessary to matter the day.
If a 23 kilometer track seems too much, you can choose other shorter tracks (information on the spot).
You can choose another track of 32 km as well which takes 2 days including an overnight stay in bivouac (in Gaud et Gournier - wildcamping prohibited in the Canyon).
A shuttle comes to take you at 8am, and you will be back at approximately at 6pm.
Tariff: 25,00 € / person.
Do not automatically prefer the high season to go down on the Ardèche. On the one hand the number of people visiting the river is very important with risks of queueing up on the river courses, the water level is low and you will have to row a lot more.
On the other hand, the water streams will be less playfull !
Do not hesitate to organise a going down during the nice days in the month of May for example, when the river level is still high and the number of people visiting is small.
We offer an excellent video dedicated to the Ardèche Canyon and its heritage. You will find a great lot of information according to the Ardèche as well as superb images!

The canyon is located in the Natural Reserve of the Gorges de l'Ardèche, which contains some hiking difficulties (wildcamping prohibited for example).
A hike plan "The Ardèche canyon and its plateaux" has been created in order to identify the new possibilities to discover the territory.
There is a 250 kilometer network of marked out tracks (PDIPR 07 et 30) presented in a un topo-guide of 17 files which represent the natural environment of the area (geology, climate, fauna, flora, history...).
The Ardèche canyon can be followed by car on the North side by a panoramic road across the garrigue.
The best way to follow the circuit is from Vallon Pont d’Arc to finish at Saint Martin d’Ardèche (you will be on the right riverside to admire the view).
Numerous car parks along the track with splendid and amazing panaroma views!
When leaving the campsite, it will take 25 kilometers to go to Vallon Pont d’Arc, approximately half an hour. Then, if you like, you can walk along the Canyon and enjoy bathing in the river…
